About this coffee

Rwanda Akagera

From the hills of Western Rwanda to your cup of coffee. Ripe coffee cherries from various small farms are carefully sorted at the Akagera station. Only the ripest cherries sink into a large vat of water and are sorted in this way. They then undergo a 72-hour anaerobic natural fermentation in sealed vats, in the shade and under strict control, before being hand-selected again, ensuring that only the best coffee beans reach your cup.

The result? A fresh, juicy coffee full of notes of plum, pear, and apricot. This coffee shows just how cool modern processed Specialty coffee can be.

P.s. to support Ukraine we have chosen to import via an Ukrainian organization 🇺🇦

This is how FREKKO roasts

Tuesday roast day
The coffee roaster fires up every Tuesday. We roast only to order, so your coffee can sometimes take a few days longer to arrive. The advantage: you always get super-fresh coffee delivered to your door.

Our roasting profiles
At FREKKO, we don't use the classic espresso/filter/omni brew system, but rather roasting colors. This gives you the freedom to choose how you brew your coffee.

ULTRA LIGHT
A very light roast. Often favored for filtering, fresh and fruity.

LIGHT
Popular with modern espresso and filter coffee. Clear and balanced.

MEDIUM
Slightly rounder, more body. Great for espresso and filter coffee.

DARK
Full-bodied and powerful. Perfect for espresso, automatic coffee machines, or filter coffee if you enjoy bold flavors. No oily burnt roast, but the darkest we roast at FREKKO.

At FREKKO, it's not about rules, it's about taste and enjoyment of coffee.

Our basic recipe

Think of this as a starting point. From there, you can start playing.

Espresso

LIGHT
18 g in · 60 g out (1:3.4 brew ratio)

MEDIUM
18 g in · 45 g out (1:2.5 brew ratio)

DARK
18 g in · 40 g out (1:2.2 brew ratio)

We always start with the brew ratio. The extraction time isn't a starting point, but it is a useful check afterward.

If the coffee is acidic , grind finer (flow time will be longer).
If the coffee is bitter , grind coarser (flow time will be shorter).

Filter
15 g in · 250 g out (1:16.7 brew ratio)
Aim for a run time of around 3:00 minutes, regardless of which pour-over you use.

Specialty Coffee Explained

Specialty coffee is coffee that makes you pause to taste the flavors hidden in the coffee.

These flavours are evident at FREKKO because we roast our coffee lighter and fresh every week.

With our ever-changing selection of coffees, we always have something special for every coffee lover, from espresso to filter coffee.

In short: specialty coffee represents the highest quality standard for coffee. Fairly traded and with a sustainable approach.

FREKKO micro roastery

At FREKKO, we believe life is too short to drink the same coffee all the time. That's why we started roasting our own coffees in 2022. No mass production, but carefully selected beans with their own unique character.

We partner with organizations that stand for fair prices, few middlemen, and good quality. This way, we know exactly where our coffee comes from and who contributed to its production.

For us, coffee is never boring: there's always something new to discover, new flavors, new styles. And that's precisely what makes it so enjoyable. At FREKKO, it's all about coffee that suits you, just a little bit different, just a little bit better
